Bara Imambara

The Bara Imambara has a unique style of construction. The central hall of Bara Imambara is said to be the largest arched hall in the world. The hall measures 50 meters long and goes upto a height of 15 meters. What makes the construction unique is the fact that the blocks have been put together with interlocking system of bricks and there has been absolutely no use of girders and beams. The roof stands steady till date without any pillars to support it.

Hazratganj

Hazratganj got its name in 1842, and is popularly known as 'Ganj'. After the First War of Independence in 1857, the British took over the city of Lucknow and Hazratganj was modeled after Queen Street in London. In 2010, after nearly 200 years, Hazratganj received a makeover. Buildings were painted in a uniform color, and stone pavements and Victorian style balustrades were constructed to enhance the architecture. At Hazratganj, you can find a variety of Chikan work at numerous stores in the Janpath Market. Hazratganj is also the hub for various other handicrafts and handmade objects. To name but a few, Kashmir Government Arts Emporium and Gandhi Ashram deserve a visit from handicraft connoisseurs.

British Residency

The British Residency of Lucknow is a famous historical landmark of this place. It is now in ruins and has been declared a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India. The British Residency was the place that served as a refuge for approximately 3000 British inhabitants during the time of the uprising of 1857. Lucknow was center of all British activities during the siege and the Residency became the monopolistic center of the British for almost 90 days.

Lucknow Zoo

The Prince of Wales Edward VIII Zoological Gardens, popularly known as Lucknow Zoological Gardens, was established in the year 1921 to commemorate the visit of His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales to Lucknow. The zoo receives about 1,100,000–1,200,000 visitors annually. The zoo is home to 463 mammals, 298 birds, and 72 reptiles representing 97 species. A Toy train was started in 1969. The rolling stock consisting of engine and two coaches is the gift of Railway Board. The train was inaugurated on the Children's Day 14 November 1969 by the then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. The track is 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) long and has crossings and signals. Rides start from Chandrapuri station and travels to almost every section of the zoo.

Rumi Darwaza

The Rumi Darwaza is an example of the fine architectural style of Awadh. The Rumi Darwaza of Lucknow is also known by the name of Turkish Gateway. The Rumi Darwaza goes upto a staggering height of 60 feet. The uppermost part of Rumi Darwaza comprises of an octagonal Chatri (Umbrella) carved beautifully that can be accessed by a staircase.

Janeshwar Mishra Park

Janeshwar Mishra Park is an urban park operating in Gomti Nagar in Lucknow, India. It was made in memory of late politician Janeshwar Mishra from Samajwadi Party. The park was inaugurated for general public of the city on 5 August 2014. It is claimed to be Asia's 10th largest garden. It was developed with a cost of 168 crores($276,026.668). The site measures around 376 acres and is located in Gomti Nagar extension. A series of cycling, jogging and walkways are built in the park. The total length of such track/s are 5.28 km., 8.85 km. and 10.5 km. A statue of Mr. Janeshwar Mishra is installed at an important location within the park. The statue 25 feet tall to visible from all corners of the park.

Chhota Imambara

Chota Imambara, also known as Imambara Hussainabad Mubarak. The Hussainabad Imambara is a major tourist attraction of Lucknow. The monument was built by Mohammed Ali Shah in the year 1837. The walls of the monument are decorated with Arabic verses that have been carved beautifully by efficient craftsmen. The structure has an imposing white colored dome and many pillars or minarets. The interiors of the monument are worth seeing. They have been decorated beautifully with elaborate chandeliers, mirrors with gold frames, the majestic throne of the King. There are small miniatures of the Taj Mahal on either side of the monument. The Hussainabad Imambara is beautifully decorated during the festival of Moharrum. The whole structure is bordered with thousands of little bulbs, which give it a royal look when illuminated in the evening.

Aminabad is a large bazaar located in the heart of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh made by Shah Alam II in 1759 - 1806 . The main product is chikan embroidered garments. The Aminabad Bazaar of Lucknow has operated since the time of the Nawabs of Awadh. The time of Nawabs, the market boasts of its unmatched fashion, and being one of the oldest markets, it is still surrounded by buildings and architectures of nawabi era. Shops sell fashion products, ornaments, jewelry, fashion garments, fancy dresses, chikan kurta, chikan sarees and other women's wear, chikan menswear, footwear and other such apparel. Most products are locally produced. A special attraction is Thursday's footpath market.

Moti Mahal

The Moti Mahal in Lucknow is one of the most beautiful monuments of India. The Nawab of Lucknow, Saadat Ali Khan, constructed it in 1798-1814. The Lucknow Moti Mahal is also known as Palace of Pearls. The Moti Mahal is located on the borders of Gomti and provides a spectacular view of the city of Nawabs. The Nawabs used this palace to view birds in flight and spend time in leisure. There are three buildings that comprise the whole construction. The two other buildings are known as Shah Manzil and Mubarak Manzil. These two buildings were added later by Nawab Ghazi-ud-din Haider. These were used by the Nawab to watch animal combats and animal fights. The Moti Mahal is preserved till date by the concerned authorities and is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Lucknow.

Vidhan Sabha Bhawan Council House

Vidhan Bhawan is located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. The state is one of the few in the country which has a bicameral legislature also called Vidhan Bhavan with two houses -the lower and the upper. The lower house is the Vidhan Sabha or the State Legislative Assembly and the upper house is called the Vidhan Parishad or the State Legislative council. The Vidhan Sabha had 431 members till 1967, but now the Vidhan Sabha consists of 403 directly elected members and one nominated member from the Anglo-Indian community. The Vidhan Parishad has 100 members.Built in 1928, the building was originally called the "Council House" and holds sitting of the legislature of the state of Uttar Pradesh since 1937 along with housing other important offices of Uttar Pradesh Government

Chandrika Devi Temple

Chandrika Devi Temple is one of the sacred temples of the Hindu god Chandi. It is situated on the bank of river Gomti at north-west of National Highway No.24 (Lucknow-Sitapur Road) in Kathvara village, near Lucknow City. This temple is 300 years old and is well known for the deity Chandrika Devi - a form of Goddess Durga. It is also called Mahi Sagar Teerth. There is mention of this temple in the holy books of Skand and Karma Puran.

Shah Najaf Imambara

Shah Najaf Imambara is one of the several imambaras in Lucknow. It is located centrally in the city and is less known that Asafi and Hussainabad Imambara. Shah Najaf Imambara was constructed by Nawab Ghazi-ud-Din Haider, the last nawab wazir and the first King of the state of Awadh in 1816 - 1817. This imambara served as his mausoleum and was copy of Hazrat Ali's tomb in Najaf in Iraq. Apart from Nawab Ghazi-ud-Din, his three wives Sarfaraz Mahal, Mubarak Mahal and Mumtaz Mahal were also buried there.

Husainabad Clock Tower

It was constructed in 1881 by Nawab Nasir-ud-din Haider to mark the arrival of Sir George Couper, 1st Lieutenant Governor of United Province of Avadh. Built in the year 1881, Husainabad clock tower is adjudged as the tallest among all the clock towers in India. it was built as a replica to the BIGBEN clock tower of london.Roskell Payne designed this structure of 67 meter high and it reflects Victorian and Gothic style structural designs. Gunmetal is used for building the clock parts. It's gigantic pendulum has a length of 14 feet and the dial of the clock is designed in the shape of a 12-petalled flower and bells around it

Kukrail Forest Reserve

Kukrail Reserve Forest is located in Indranagar adjacent to Shivpuri colony on picnic spot road. The centre at Kukrail came up in the year 1978, which was funded by the Uttar Pradesh forest department in collaboration Ministry of Environment and Forests India. This effort marked the beginning of state government's efforts towards conservation of crocodiles at a time when only 300 of them were left. Kukrail houses a deer park and one of the nurseries of the endangered species of crocodiles in India. Chakra Tirth Temple

Naimisharanya is also called as Nemisharanya. Nemi means the outer surface of the disc (chakra) and the place where it fell is called by the name of Nemisharanya or popularly called as Naimisharanya. The spot where the Nemi of the chakra fell came to be known as Chakra Tirtha (a holy bathing place in the shape of a chakra) and the surrounding forest area as Naimisharanya. It is believed and said that once upon a time Lord Maha Vishnu had killed demons at this place within a split second – a nimisha (nimisha is a unit of time, the time it takes to blink) and thence forth this are was called as Naimishaaranya.Naimisharanya has a parikrama (circumambulation) path of 16 km, in which all the sacred places in India are believed to be located. In every ancient literary composition (grantha) – starting from Srimad Bhagavata to the presentation of Sri Ram Charita Manas, the site Naimisharanya has been mentioned and described in each and every one of them.
